I finally understand. After decades of casually wondering.

(I didn't question the non-locality of quantum mechanics in undergrad, but when I pivoted to economics in grad school, which deals a lot with hidden variables, it made me wonder why quantum indeterminism couldn't be explained by hidden variables)
