I did this wrong so many times and lost so many sats that I feel confident sharing with you something that has been working for me many times now, giving them Bitcoin + a card. Let the gift be simple. Let their curiosity drive the next steps. That's how you create savers, not confused users who abandon under confusion.

Would you be open to a two-part approach: (1) Gift introduction (my design) + (2) optional funding guide? So you can also choose to gift the cards empty (for them to fill) or filled for some of your special and dear ones.

I do not think the newbie will understand on-chain/lightning. I want them to follow outlined steps. How much should they know? I do not comprehend lightning 😉 although I use it often.

I want them to leave the sats on the card until they are ready to learn more, at which point they will start asking questions. Getting someone to load the card gets more
