In the regular season, getting the ball first is an advantage because OT is only 10 minutes

Most teams can’t/don’t sustain a 10 minute TD drive, so I don’t really think it’s that big of an advantage

But if a team scores a touchdown first and spends 7 minutes doing so, they have almost guaranteed a tie

That’s why I doubt it would end in a tie. In this scenario both teams know they need to win. It would have to be a late second FG to send it to OT and then both teams do nothing offensively in OT.
