My (no coiner) buddy and I are taking a road trip south to get out of the ice and cold weather for a few days. I have a bunch of sats burning a hole in my pocket.

I'm looking for recommendations. We will mainly be driving the I-95 corridor down to Florida. I'd like to treat my friend to a few meals by paying with bitcoin. Nothing like free food to help swallow the orange pill.

FYI:

  • I know about both Pubkeys. We might hit one for lunch if the timing works out.
  • I know about Steak 'n Shake. We will pay them a visit at some point, but my digestive system can only take so much SnS.

Other than extending the trip down to El Salvador! all you can do is check out any places listed on BTCMap and try them out.
I now plan road trips here in NZ around BTCMap and am planning one down to Queenstown later this year where there is a decent hub of maybe 30 BTC businesses- there are generally still very few BTC accepting outlets but all we can do is support those that exist and hope more develop.
Have a good trip and let us know how it goes.

Thanks very much. I'm going to keep trying to scour that map.

‘Nothing behind me, everything ahead of me, as is ever so on the road.’

And;
‘There was nothing to talk about anymore. The only thing to do was go.’

Enjoy!

have fun on the road trip — sadly i can't recommend anything, i was never in the us. but maybe btcmap can help you find some good spots on the way

reply

Thanks. Yes, I'm scouring BTC map. There are a few possibilities. Unfortunately on this route the spots are mainly ATMs or Steak n Shakes

I'd also consider Bitrefill or The Bitcoin Company for when you cannot find a restaurant that accepts bitcoin directly. They have gift cards for most of the big restaurant chains and gas stations, so you can demo lightning payments.

Yeah, I know, but I'm really not a bitcoin gift card guy. I'm not judging others, but I don't see it as spending bitcoin.

I agree. Merchants accepting directly is the best. But at least they let us spend KYC-free and bank-free.
