Going to school with my son has its advantages.

I had a Chinese story book in my bag, so while waiting to the bus, I scanned through the pages. “Wow what an easy read!” I exclaimed as I thought about how smart I was to inculcate the habit of reading Chinese aloud to him since last year. My discipline and mental fortitude have steeled me to the extent that I was not intimidated at all by these rudimentary words.

So I read it aloud to him. Finished reading it before the bus arrived. Let him snuggle against me on our way to school. Strode into my workplace with a spring in my step. Not even 7.30am and I had accomplished the most important thing on my life to-do list — advancing my son’s education

BIP 3 was deployed this morning half an hour after I got to the office. Had been working on that (not exclusively) for 20 months.

I got up and out of bed at 06:30, had coffee. That could be a win in itself, but the actual win was the neighborhood feral cat who came over to the porch to get some pets.

Coffee + patting = best combi ever

I love the time dedicated to your son. Not only for his education, but the time spent is priceless and will be something he will never forget. The joy you received from investing that time is like getting paid twice for the same work. Love it.

My first wins today, and every day, are the hugs I get from my kids as they wake up and come downstairs. I'm usually up early, sitting in my chair with a cup of coffee and reading. I still have five kids in the house, and they all wake up at different times. But when they shuffle downstairs with sleep still painted on their faces and find me sitting in my chair, my great joy of the day is the hug I get before they go eat breakfast.

After that, the rest of the day is just details.

My first win of the day was waking up. Many people ignore this advantage, but being able to wake up every day in a safe place is a great luxury, one that many people cannot afford in many parts of the world, and in other cases there are people who do not know if they will wake up tomorrow.

My second victory of the day came right after the first one: “Waking up.” I got up before 5:30 a.m. to help my little girl get ready for her outing today. She had a trip to the mountains with her grandmother, and she loves these activities. So, my wife and I got up to help her get her things ready and say goodbye before she set off on her adventure.

I love her determination. On a normal day, waking her up might have meant a struggle and several attempts, but today I only had to call her a couple of times and she woke up smiling and active, totally motivated for her planned activity.

Good job with your son. Encouraging reading is necessary and something that many parents sometimes ignore.

great that she loves the outdoors! my son can play at the playground for a while — and then he will complain of the heat. not as rugged as yours haha

you also reminded me to be thankful for living in a politically stable climate

My first daily win is always getting out of bed to go to work! 😄

Are you the kind who hits the snooze button often?

reply

I only hit it once for another 10 minutes.
