What's the biological theory that's being offered up as to how it affects injury risk?
Interesting. The scientists that disregard it are probably working off of evidence from studies that just look at averages of samples. For the level of stress that these athletes undergo, existing scientific studies may not be very relevant (not that I know the literature, I am speaking out of my sphincter here.)
Right. This might not cause any notable issues for normal folks but maybe even a small degradation of muscle, tissue, tendons etc is enough to increase injuries in guys that are playing a highly physical sport where they are already pushing the limits of what humans are biologically capable of. I am amenable to the idea that even minute effects can be significant for these guys.
Maybe it's as simple as the exposure slows recovery and with persistent stress eventually something snaps.
It really seems like a worth while idea to check out. There’s clearly something going on
They have to because a few players have talked about it and now they are running the risk of free agents not wanting to sign with the team because they are worried about this.
Apparently the Timberwolves installed some emf modulation devices in their arena and practice facility. Looking into that might be a good starting point.
