My Concerns With Vibe Coding - From a Vibe Coder.

Something that's been on my mind quite a bit is how far Ai is advancing, and at such a rapid rate.

It's a lot of fun at times, I have made a lot of cool things, and I've watched so many other people do the same.

But I have also seen a shift, a shift that is worrisome to me.

So many apps are being built all the time, that the market is getting flooded, nobody seems to give a shit about anyone's creations anymore because anyone could do the same thing now, with little to no experience.

This not only creates a lot of apps, but also makes it so nobody's app really matters.

It's cool to see what people build, and I have really enjoyed watching it and doing it myself.

But what is the long term effects, does anyone think about this? Does anyone care?

What happens when building a website costs less than a Burger at Burger King?

What you get is not only a flooded market, but inferior apps too.

And what happens to real devs? Do they lose their jobs because they are no longer needed anymore?

It's kinda scary to think about.

And also, it creates a big risk, traditionally you could kind of tell if an app was legit and safe to use based on how it looked and performed, scams were usually built worse, but now anyone can build something that looks legit but might not be.

This is just something that's really been bothering me recently.

I have had fun building, and I will continue to build for you.

But man, support a real dev who puts in the work.

They deserve it. 🫂 🐕

The thing is, hardly none of those vibe coded apps will survive, because they are not maintainable. Once people start trying to add features and fix bugs, it will collapse into a broken mess.

Having said that, I think it could be possible that humans no longer do specific development task, things like writing UI's or API boilerplate could be a thing of the past.

Future vibe coders will still need to understand proper development architecture to use AI in a maintainable way. Basically we're moving full-circle. Knowledge of specific languages are less important, but the ability to write proper specs is more important.

I agree this is why I stopped vibe coding

What you get is not only a flooded market, but inferior apps too.

So the entire internet gets enshittified like was previously reserved for social media.

traditionally you could kind of tell if an app was legit and safe to use based on how it looked and performed

That's always been a risky approach and how a lot of people got their data leeched and sold to brokers. Pre-AI. So you now have to be extra careful.

I see a great opportunity for learning, when I was trying to write a program before I was relying on manuals, and help from peers, now I just ask the AI and it provides the documentation on the instructions or the thing I was struggling with - as a student this is really a great time to learn development (for small projects at least).

Yup... some VC's were predicting there would soon be single-person 1B companies. Instead it will be a complete race to the bottom.

Slop-app galore and a complete unwillingness to pay premiums for software 😢
