pull down to refresh

Overwhelmed. Tired. Mind racing for no reason. An existential dread of there being too much of everything and too little of you. These are the symptoms of the times. The amount of external information and stimuli we are being bombarded with has exploded with the advent of radio, television, the Internet and smartphones.

We have neuroplasticity, yes, but there is no way our brains could evolve as quickly as technology has evolved in the last 100 years. Of course we feel like we’re drowning in a sea of information. Of course we’re having trouble discerning what’s real and what isn’t, or what’s important and what isn’t.

Take a person from 100 years ago, put them in today’s society and they will feel like an alien. Honestly, they’d probably go crazy. That person from 100 years agoIS YOU, biologically speaking.

So instead of beating yourself up by trying to “keep up,” consider yourself lucky for maintaining a modicum of sanity in an insane world. Consider yourself blessed for having the mental faculties to operate in this society. And most importantly, consider yourself strong for having the determination and drive to be the author of your own life in the face of external forces which are trying to pull you in countless different directions at the same time.

What I’m trying to get at is simply this: tune out of the external noise and tune in to your internal voice. Even if it’s just for a few minutes per day. What’s necessary and relevant for you will find you. You won’t have to Google it, or ask ChatGPT for it, or listen to a podcast for it.

Your soul knows. Put the ego aside, put “what should be” aside and listen to your inner voice. The answers lie within, not “out there.” Once you truly get in tune with your soul, then you are in tune with God, and there is harmony. And harmony is beauty, and purpose, and dance, and play, all merged into one. It becomes greater than the sum of its parts. It becomes what sustains, nourishes and inspires.
