In November, Quanta magazine published a feature on the detection of “magic” top quarks at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC). This magic, they explained, is part of an interesting shift happening at the LHC as scientists realize how useful the facilities there can be for quantum computing. The collider—which will be old enough to vote in September of this year—is evolving to help quantum researchers with information studies, in addition to its stated goals in physics and cosmology.

It's wild to see the LHC pivot towards quantum info. Every time I see 'magic' and 'quantum' in the same sentence, my brain instantly goes to: 'how long until this breaks SHA-256?' lol. But seriously, using an old collider for new-age computing is a great example of repurposing hardware instead of just letting it rot. Science is evolving as fast as the markets
