I am amazed how @odell and Bitcoin Q&A talk about tools for beginners, explaining how is self custody, protecting keys, coinjoins, privacy etc...
and then when is about to talk about LN wallets are presenting in 5 min only Breez, Phoenix and Muun. Like none other wallet app never existed and in special the NON-CUSTODIAL ONES.
Matt, is a bit ironic that you put on a golden pedestal Muun but ignoring ALL others much better and more respectful with privacy than Muun.
  • you know very well that Muun is NOT a LN wallet, is just faking it with submarine swaps, where the user cannot control anything.
  • you know that Muun CONTROLS users xpubs, user can't export them or have total control, you can't even connect to your own node. But that will be useless anyways, because Muun, in order to be able to do all that mumbo jumbo with submarine swaps, MUST control all the xpubs. Is not that a leak of privacy that you always want to defend?
  • the backup/restore process is very confusing and more than suspicious
  • Muun CANNOT be installed without google services, that means total spyware.
Meanwhile none of you say a word about other LN apps (looks like you both do not know too well about LN apps). These 3 are really powerful LN apps:
  • Zeus, Zap, Thunderhub, RTL, FullyNoded etc all the LN node management apps. All these have full capabilities of LN wallets too. You've talked about Bitcoin node but no word about these...
  • Electrum wallet that also is a LN node, with trampoline and normal LN channels, on both desktop and mobile
  • OBW (Open Bitcoin Wallet), full LN node with a a lot of rich features, for both onchain and LN
  • Blixt Wallet - full LND mobile node, also available for macOS desktop, with an amazing list of rich features and possibilities
Yes, you mentioned, quickly vague about Phoenix and Breez. I consider that a beginner MUST know more about LN wallet apps, to get familiarized to use easily bitcoin and slowly to get into more complicated stuff.
You guys talk very little about LN and its importance for Bitcoin and that is wrong.
As an old bitcoiner from 2012, testing all day long all apps and solutions available, I support all I said here with some of my guides. Maybe in this way will give you more insight and material for your future episodes.
and many more on my substack. The Bitcoin world is not only onchain and coinjoins... In 2 hours episode, only 5 min about LN.... really sad.
