I just realized I don't understand how the "top" sorting in comments works. If it takes not only number of Sats into account but number of users voting and how old it is too ... then where is the difference to "hot"?

i think you missed the trust score of users new users have less trust and their upvotes thus are taken less into account

It's not sats only. It does take into account trust.
The difference between hot and top is that hot takes time into account, ie all things being equal more recently posted items rank higher.
