I want this too. The problem is specification. How exactly should it work?

  • IMO merging should not be a unilateral decision, so OPs need to coordinate, which means OP's need to request and approve merges from each other.
  • How to display merged threads? Whose title/text is displayed first? Perhaps the merge request involves proposing the new merge post title/text?

Both levels of thinking are valuable. At my level of thinking it's easy to rule out awesome but hard things.
