I watched the original moon landing as a kid and was moderately impressed.

But these days I wonder are we humans fit to spread our influence beyond earth when we are still savages destroying the planet and killing each other over control of its resources?

A huge portion of the space program is military related...often cloaked in feel good 'scientific research' PR spin.
