I think the question is not properly formulated:

  1. Will it achieve full adoption?

Unavoidably, the economy in the future will need it, specially as gold stops being scarce once space mining is in full swing, for then such material scarcity will only be possible virtually.

  1. Will it replace fiat money?

Not even any kind of money. Because of its use as an underlying store of value, bitcoin will not be used as money of exchange. It will become the support for tokens which will be used as everyday money.

So the proper answer to me is: Yes, No.

How much more widespread adoption do we need to realize that Bitcoin is the future? I ask myself this regularly.

I think widespread adoption at the government level and in general is something we won’t see in the short term (by “short term,” I mean the next 50 years).

The fiat model is designed to benefit those who control it; Bitcoin breaks that control. It is not in governments’ best interest to fully adopt Bitcoin, just as it is not in their best interest to ban it.

I think both the Bitcoin standard and the fiat standard can coexist for many more years—many...
