There was a coral snake in the alley next to my house. Never seen one before. Kinda cool looking.

Snakes around house is a good sign that they catch mice/rats.
Never try to kill snakes, just make them to not enter into your house.
Don't worry about proliferation, other snake's predators will come around and limit their number.
Nature will always take care.
I remember once, on my citadel premises, I saw 3-4 mice. So I went looking for snakes around in the woods and when I found one, I just bring it to my place, placing it under a pile of dirt and leaves, to make his own "house" near by mice.
In few weeks none of the mice were around. Clean surroundings, clean house. Snakes will not enter into your house, at least if they are not forced or disoriented, looking for a prey.

I don't worry about snakes coming into the house. But I do have children who like to play outside. From what I read, coral snakes are pretty shy and don't like to be around people, but it does make me nervous for kids' sake.
