In an existential crisis, the US will naturallly sink to the lowest common denominator of whatever is necessary to survive. Yes, as you surmised, we're copying the PRC's system. That means if you say something I disagree with, you have to die. If you follow the wrong religion, dead. I get to sleep in your house because it's necessary for the war effort. And so on.

The fact is Iran is not successful. Bridge Day would just be proving a point. We're not happy about it. You're demanding some kind of earthly proof and this is the only way to prove it. Meaning everything happening is your fault.

Nobody is saying US imperialism is not ruthless and amoral.

But you're not betting money on it. New Zealand is right in between the US and the PRC. Do something. If you do nothing, US imperialism wins. That's just math.

You're passing judgment on past actions while ignoring the future. The Middle East is one front. The US has, since WWII, been preparing for a multi-front war. It's an extremely conservative country. They assume the entire rest of this planet plus aliens will attack. And they are totally okay with killing off half their own population if it means sticking it to you.

Yes, end of empire. We are actually totally okay with China dominating world trade. China 

 the center of this planet. The question is which China. We're not going to let the communists win. If a billion have to die to make sure real China wins then so be it.
