Rhinos and elephants produce the most amount of poo. đź’©

This sentence in the book we were reading made the son speak up. “Did you know that elephants poo 100 times a day?” he shared.

This is why parents need to supervise their children’s online habits. Surely, that dubious claim cannot be true. Googled it and found that elephants poo about 12-15 times a day. Enough evidence to debunk the YouTuber’s erroneous information.

Not sure if my intervention was effective. The son seemed adamant about believing the YouTuber. His mind has been warped.

Anyway, this was the perfect opportunity for me to share my collection of poo facts with him. This included a photo of fossilized dinosaur poo, an insight that Asian tortoises eat poo, a word of caution that we will find it harder to poop when we are stressed, and a stunning fact that we poo the equivalent of an adult male panda each year. Don’t ask me why I have a morbid curiosity in regard to poo when our elementary science curriculum doesn’t introduce the anus.

Stepping in with the actual facts help a lot but your son is looking at the wow-ness of it all and not the factual part.

It has been my experience that children find poo hilarious -- poo facts, jokes, discussion, stories, anything about poo seems to be an easy way to get a child to laugh. But, adults are much less willing to talk about or laugh about it. I'm sure this distinction varies by culture, but in the US at least it seems very pronounced.
