my tests have all been successful so far :) got my bitaxe set up with it...just waiting for a payout to confirm. But sending to the offers seems to be variable now!

And seems when I decode the offers, they are utilizing blinded paths as I can't see my own node in the decoded info. Does that sound right to you ?

Yes, that's expected. BOLT12 offers use blinded paths for recipient privacy, so you normally won't see your own node id exposed in the decoded offer. Glad to hear your tests are working too! I'm seeing successful OCEAN DATUM payouts and CLN → LND payments as well.

you've done something very cool here, well done !

Thanks mate! And thanks for pointing me to the issue!

is it an option to use a custodial LNURL as the fallback, so I don't expose my public node id?

I set up zapbastiat@thatwhichisnotseen.st with a custodial lnurl but it doesn't seem to work.

Hey just wanted to let you know, that I am in the process of releasing another privacy feature with having your ocean mining setup in mind, this brings a persistent database for offer history on the /pay site. So the entries are consistent across devices now and you can generate one or several new BIP 353 Lightning address for each saved offer optionally with automatic DNS entriy management and deletion.

This all happens independent from the public alias pages, so these offers are not leaked there (DNS entry remains optional)

If you want to try the feature here in advance give it a test sideload if you like:

Matt Hill did release it already so you could as well just update from the marketplace.
Also available on umbrel. Got merged today.

So now you can just generate a new amountless offer and sign it for ocean payouts. Best privacy practice would be to not generate a BIP 353 address for this particular offer.

But with the new release update it will be saved in the Bolt12 pay history database now persistently and accessible from all devices whereas offer history in /pay was browser based before. Now store is server side.

This way the ocean payout offer won't be visible in the public alias pages.

one could also make an offer on the pay page with the Ocean description that won't show publicly, ya?

ah I see, let me check this, it might be an option to use completly different another base domain for lnurl or a dummy domain and just put in the txt record and domain in cloudflare for offers...let me get back to you about this

reply

yes i think something of that sort to have the option to use a another LNURL domain or not have the LNURL at all is a good option to give users.

Privacy mode is ready and already merged in startos, you can try it until it arrives in the marketplace , here is the pre release link: https://github.com/Alex71btc/bolt12-pay-startos/releases/tag/v0.2.106

zapping from my NWC setup in bolt12, btw! works great!

yes maybe easiest would be maybe an option to switch of lnurl entirely and not have bolt11 fallback, but that would also cripple all nostr features...but it should be possible to choose another dummy lnurl base domain. This config (see screenshot)

worked for my, it just produces bold 12 offers and nothing else. also do not set a primary startos domain in the action or just put in dummy as well.

reply

for now it makes sense to have the LNURL backup as almost everyone uses it for zaps in practice, but the optionality is important. But, this is such a great tool to transition payments on lightning to bolt12, imo.

yes in the next release I will add an option to just publish offer and bip 353 address or just offer, without lnurl fallback, good catch!

reply

you also can create offers in the admin ui ( pay site) without creating lnurl alias, just use these offers anywhere, you could still make the txt entries for bip353 manually, but maybe I will add a button for the offer history to publish offer bip 353 lightning addresses without lnurl fallback as well.
