was reading about replay attacks and the risk involved with dumping the ecash fork

in theory tho, could you buy post fork bitcoin, create a new utxo with the new bitcoin and your old, then the fork wouldnt have that utxo, thus preventing a replay attack?

not to mention the privacy concerns that come with something like this.
dumping the ecash most likely on a KYC exchange, links you to a certain amount of bitcoin, and being KYCed in the first place,

has anyone seriously thought this through at all?
curious as to what you guys are thinkin in regards to this

It doesn't look like it will be worth bothering with.

reply

I came to same conclusion

reply

kyc could be not suitable for some people but there is nothing to hide

reply

kyc is not about hiding anything.

honeypots of information held by companies who dont actually care about their security/ their users private information.

aside from the honeypot of information just waiting to be leaked, you may have nothing to 'hide' TODAY, but laws change frequently and what is legal today maybe illegal in a few years.

try and think about the long term.

thats my mentality when it comes to KYC.
avoid when possible

less honeypots that include my info the less chances of it leaking.

reply

No! Im not doing anything to dump any forked coin

reply

are there even exchanges to dump this on ?

reply

Time will tell- its not been issued yet.
No harm in being prepared for a windfall.
Remember BCH?
Got $2000/coin back in early 2018.
Be prepared.

reply

good point, but I wonder if it will be worth it.

there's a much smaller group backing ecash then bch

reply

Yes I'd not heard of this ecash fork off BTC until today.
Unless the Ecash fork has some valid pretext capable of generating enough market interest then it may not ever be worth claiming.

reply

i dont see paul doing all this if he doesnt think there is a market.

he has been pushing drivechains for years. and this is his solution to getting what he wants.
im sure some shitcoiners will see value in drivechains etc.

down to get some more sats for the fork coins tho.

reply

Looking forward to a bonus if eventuates.
Cashed in the BCH fork early 2018 and hope to do the same with ecash if its worth it.
Be prepared!

reply

Wait and see what if any market price the forked coin reaches.
Be prepared just in case.
Free money is not to be sniffed at, though recognize there is some risk if extraction is not executed carefully.

graci senor, seems like he echos my thoughts and adds some more info

will it works the same for bip110 fork?

reply

As currently planned there is no replay protection for bip110 so it isn't clear cut what's going to happen. I think the general consensus is that the 110 chain will just stall out and then Luke will hard fork it and PoW algo change. At that point maybe an exchange lists the 110 coin but I have no idea.

BIP-110 does not cause a chain split so there isn't any special replay attack possible. https://bip110.org
