Self-custody is protected by law in a handful of countries. In most others it's technically legal and practically a seizure risk, and figuring out which is which usually means wading through regulations, FATF mutual evaluations, and central bank guidance that assumes you're already a lawyer.
Built a Global Bitcoin Regulatory Map to fix that: an interactive 3D globe covering 140 jurisdictions, each scored across six dimensions: legal status, self-custody rights, tax treatment, political trajectory, formal legal classification, and seizure risk.
Every entry is checked against statutory law, central bank guidance, judicial precedent, and tax authority rulings, cross-referenced with IMF and FATF sources, reviewed quarterly, last verified June 2026.
A few data points: El Salvador, Switzerland, UAE, Singapore, Germany, and Argentina classify Pro-Bitcoin. The US, UK, Canada, Japan, and Brazil land Moderate: legal, but with regulatory teeth attached. China stays Restrictive.
Drag to rotate, scroll to zoom, click any country for the full profile, the actual statute, the enforcement pattern, what happens if you get flagged.
Full access to the map is a free subscriber feature on the newsletter: https://thebitcoinact.xyz.
Happy to go deep on methodology or any specific jurisdiction in the comments.
