In federal court, the Department of Energy agreed—for purposes of this case—that the October 2025 grant cancellations were:
- not based on scientific merit
- not based on program performance
- not based on saving money
- not based on DOE priorities
Instead, DOE stipulated that the deciding factor was whether the grant recipient was located in a Blue State or a non-Blue State.
Even more striking, DOE agreed that this political sorting wasn't part of its own review process. Career staff had recommended terminating similar grants in both red and blue states, but the final termination notices overwhelmingly hit blue-state grants.
That is a fundamentally different story.
Every administration changes policy priorities. That's politics.
Using federal money to treat Americans differently because of the politics of the state they live in is something else entirely.
The high-signal read isn't about climate policy.
It's about whether the federal government can use taxpayer dollars as a political reward-and-punishment system.
If that principle stands, it won't stop with energy grants.
Tomorrow it could be disaster relief, transportation, education, health care, housing, or any other federal program.
The issue isn't who wins the next election.
It's whether Americans are treated equally by their own government regardless of how their state votes.
Now we get to see selectorate theory in action.
Because blue states are preparing a communist revolution. We have to cut them off ahead of time. We won't/can't provide disaster relief to territory that is in open revolt. They can ask the PRC for assistance.

This administration has shown that it will use federal power not merely to defeat political opponents, but to punish the Americans it associates with them, even when doing so harms its own voters.
