I had ~90k reward sats and ~260k CCs. I deposited purchased ~150k CCs, and all of my reward sats got converted. Why?

We assume you would rather not send sats to SN (and pay for routing them) if there are already some on SN to spend. What did you want to keep the 90k reward sats for? You can only withdrawal them or spend them in the same way you can CCs.

If you have already seen (and even zapped) a comment from your notifications, the blue bubble for that comment still displays next to the thread title when looking at the main list.

We're aware of this, but it's nice to have the issue to remind us. Currently, we only mark comments as seen when the thread is visited.

...presumably, I want the option of withdrawing them later. Cash > Gift Cards, even if the value is the same.

But the cash you don't spend that's already on SN would have to come from another source. You have the same amount of cash either way.

reply

Maybe some of us just want to keep our sats in the SN wallet.

The same thing happened to me with what he's describing. At first I didn't get it either, but after taking a closer look, i see.

When buying CCs, it could ask whether you want to spend the sats from your SN wallet.

Why would anyone want to convert their reward sats into CCs under any scenario?

reply

Didn't you buy CCs? Other people might want to as well.

Besides, buying CCs with your reward sats already happens automatically when you run out of CCs!

Not if I want to withdraw. I'm about to test the (only) submission for #1532486

If it doesn't meet the minimum requirements, it would be nice to be able to withdraw the reward sats I've earned since I didn't need to use for paying a future huge bounty.

See:

Cash > Gift Cards, even if the value is the same.

Let's walkthrough this with an example and assume you had 1m sats offsite somewhere.

So before purchasing CCs this is your state:

"cash" on SN: 90k sats
"gift card" on SN: 260k CCs
"cash" off SN: 1m sats

the way it currently works purchasing 150k CCs

"cash" on SN: 0 sats
"gift card" on SN: 410k CCs
"cash" off SN: 940k sats

Total "cash": 940k sats
Total "gift card": 410k CCs

the way you want it to work purchasing 150k CCs

"cash" on SN: 90k sats
"gift card" on SN: 410k CCs
"cash" off SN: 850k sats

Total "cash": 940k sats
Total "gift card": 410k CCs

Do you see what I'm saying now? In either case, you end up with the same amount of "cash" and "gift card." BUT, with the way it currently works, you sent less "cash" around the internet.

reply

Just stick with CCs and you will be happy.
Thank me later.

reply

...okay, I'll try to remember this suggestion and follow up later. The wisdom behind this claim escapes me at the moment.

It doesn't matter. Cashflow negative users must buy CCs, cashflow positive users accumulate sats that they should withdraw.

reply

wrong.
SN is just a game, like WoW. CCs are the goldcoins inside the game. Is a "pay to play" game.

In fact SN is the best marketing platform, but people still don't understand how to use it and still consider it a meaningless faucet.

Blue notification bubble appears on threads with seen comments

It's not a bug, it's just how it works! 😄 I noticed that a while ago.

Haven't you noticed that sometimes the blue bubble shows up, then you open the post and it feels like you've already seen everything?

Here's the trick: when a post has lots of comments, some comment threads get collapsed. That's usually where the unread comments are hiding.

The annoying part is that it's often hard to see, because there can be several collapsed threads.

reply

You can just read your notifications in reverse order to follow the thread, it's completely unnecessary to apply the blue dot.

reply

That only happens if you're subscribed to the post, assuming it's not your own. more, I don't have the "someone replies to someone who replied to me" option turned on either.
