For months and months, with Bip-110 argument after argument, we gotta stop spam, we gotta "Save Bitcoin" gotta show the miners who's boss... Bip-110 is "the only hope" for Bitcoin the miners will fold, Core is Corrupt the plebs will run nodes "Run Knots" etc etc...
The miners will "flip the bit" they don't want to get "left behind" the "spamchain will be destroyed" the "spamchain is a ****coin" Core developers want to make Bitcoin into Ethereum...
"Run Knots Save Bitcoin" I can't tell you how many times I've heard that.
Not go Transact not Spend Your Bitcoin no no no just spool up node after node after node... you know "run knots" in your bedroom closet the more the better.

How utterly completely embarrassing. These people the vast majority of them have not zero but negative credibility.
And worse, they have wasted valuable development time, taken so much energy away from important issues for a dumb Bip that had nowhere near enough support and they have made themselves look like fools. I don't know how they can coherently even explain what just happened.
To the best of my knowledge they HAD zero merchant support, zero exchange support, zero replay protection (very important) and can't even mine a block (it's been over 5 hours). What a huge amount of drama and argument for a total, utter complete failure. And worse the 'influencers' leave their 'followers' running nodes they cannot even use and cannot transact with, potentially exposing them to replay attacks that have not been explained a little, much less sufficiently.
Shameful and embarrassing the Bippers IMO owe the community an apology.
People make mistakes, it can happen to anyone, but a little humility goes a long way I don't know how Bippers can ever discuss Bitcoin again without an enormous bite of Humble Pie. Stupidity, on any issue, does not help Bitcoin.

They ploughed ahead using the shrillest of arguments and reassured the likeminded that they were morally right and therefore destined to succeed. But the widespread support just wasn't there, and they didn't bother to do the groundwork to build real consensus. Communication styled looked more like virtue signaling to one another, than genuine attempts to reach out in persuasion to others.
It actually reminds me a bit of modern day progressivism, except they don't have the power of the state to back them up.
