In my experience this has been the case for years. When I started getting out more and meeting more bitcoiners, including a few OGs, they are always surprised that I run a node. Most people respect the idea of a node, but everyone leaves the actual pain in the ass of running one to the other guy.
To be honest, I run bitcoin nodes just to play around with lightning nodes anyway. I remember getting excited when I ran my first bitcoin node. After the long chain download process, it was a bit of a let down. It just sits there. I think boredom is why I connected LND at first.

I suspect the instance of running a node is slightly higher among stackers than "normal" bitcoiners.
