I think Nostr Wallet Connect is one of the most interesting examples of where Nostr and Lightning start becoming more than just social media plus payments. Nostr can provide the identity and communication layer, while Lightning moves the value. My own experiments with building a Nostr signer also changed how I look at this. The difficult part is not only protecting the private key. Once applications can request signatures or wallet actions, permissions and user experience become just as important. NWC makes the wallet connection much more standardized, but I think the next challenge is making all of this feel safe and simple enough that an ordinary user never has to understand relays, signing permissions, connection keys, or wallet protocols. If Nostr and Lightning reach that point, I think they could become much more than tools for Bitcoin users.
