I like the ability to have a say in what gets promoted. The big downzapped post that I noticed this week is a case of slander. The post gives no evidence for the accusation in the title. I like the idea that a bunch of people can all contribute to what they do and don't want to promote. I suppose if someone is willing to spend more than the whole community, there are still some ways unfair material is promoted, but they're going to have their resources depleted faster than if they just got on the good side of one gatekeeper. So I'd say that I'm a fan of downzaps because I'm not a fan of drama. They obviously don't get rid of drama necessarily, but they at least make the resolution more democratic by way of making it more expensive for the smaller party.
