Lighting inter-compatibility allows users to pay merchants that are currently on lightning. That is a use case; not a scam.

Point of Sale wallets/devices will be accepting payment by Ark. If you can't see this then you might be living on Nostardia - a planet that literally nobody's even heard of.

It does depend on Lightning to be anything beyond just exchanging leaves within a closed network. 

There's a reason all the scammers pushing Ark affinity scam as Lightning wallets, because it's useless on its own.
