I'm looking forward to hearing what you think. Is there much financial talk yet? One of the criticisms I read was that the narrative would get interrupted by long discussions of money and debt.
Yes money and finance is a major theme and thread to the story line. But so far at least I have not found it at all annoying, but rather interesting and well written.
There are various forms of money in the inter galactic system of humanoid - cloned - robotic colonisation described.
Fast money and slow money are two of them- they could be LN and BTC but are not named as such, dont think LN was even up in 2013 when the book was written but probably had been proposed?
How they work in practice is described and how they are central to the process of funding the colonisation of the universe.
Its sci-fi with finance and AI-cloning themes woven into the action.
Great fun so far imo.
I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it.
Am now about 3/4 of the way through the audio book.
Bitcoin is explicitly mentioned but is usually called 'slow' money and forms the galactic basis of the monetary system.
It is fundamental to the means of financing the continual expansion of human colonisation of the universe.
I say human but most 'humans' are by now more robotic than human. Pure human are rare and considered lacking the strength and longevity required for space colonisation.
Peoples 'soul' is stored in a pair of chips at the back of their head and can be transmitted across space via telecommunication where at the other end a new body is assembled and the 'soul' installed into it.
There are lengthy passages describing the role of 'slow money' (Bitcoin) and some of them suggest some aspects of Bitcoin have evolved from our current understanding but its essential nature seems to be much the same in that it cannot be easily debased.
Space colonies are funded upon slow money (Bitcoin) but once up and running issues their own local 'fast money' for use within the local economy.
The futuristic exploration of hard money principles, AI-robotics and colonisation is all done in an entertaining way. Sometimes the writing style reminds me of the classic 1950s-70s sci-fi style and grammar but the writers knowledge of AI and Bitcoin-hard money theory is clearly very up to date and well projected into the fictional future.
It resonates with the whole contemporary controversy over AI and the economic model of colonisation-imperialism via monetary power projection and technology.
A modern sci fi classic imo.
Thanks for this fantastic mini review!
My copy hasn't arrived yet
Have listened to a few hours of the audio book version from pirate bay.
Its quite entertaining though so far no direct reference to Bitcoin.
