The opposite of "plug-n-play" is "Unplug and Work"
Describes the node setup pretty well actually...
Indeed! I could have placed DIY there, Raspy is a good synonym for unplug and work too...
@anon what do you mean by other?
Great question
We will never know
I could answer you but now maybe you will never know. I'll think about it.
Take your time, I'm curious. It will help better structure next polls.
Okay. I generally run on colo'd hardware I own (or rent, depending on which server I use) and you miss that option. Back before I was roaming, I ran it from my in-house rack.
In that case there are 2 issues:
You're right, I should have specified "Node run on mobile", I expect people running a node and plugging it to Zeus/blixt to select a different option.
And you're right on the VPS/cloud too, as one can get an entire server or a virtualized one. Damn, really digging into details here, good good.
I'll ensure to specify laptop/desktop/rack next.
Are you running your rack as RAID? Should that be considered as an option, or is it just a setup?
Honestly, there are many thinkable cases where you have a separate source of funds and you want to use zeus for a spending channel apart from a publicly known node. For example, your salary, your coinjoin outputs, coin coming from your cold stash. Lightning itself is a good way of breaking the heuristics chain.
it's just a setup. Generally, if you go through the pain of actually having metal, it'd be a bit of a waste to not have multiple disks. And per (iirc) Warren Togami, running a lightning node or mainnet wallet on your laptop or desktop should really use a RAID setup too.
why mobile only? I don't use mobile only :D
You never know, some folks run nodes on mobile. I heard Darthcoin was running a lightning.pub on a tablet #1258299!
raspberry pi, obviously. it's been running for years and i still don't know what half the channels are doing. we respect each other's boundaries.
