I could answer you but now maybe you will never know. I'll think about it.

Take your time, I'm curious. It will help better structure next polls.

Okay. I generally run on colo'd hardware I own (or rent, depending on which server I use) and you miss that option. Back before I was roaming, I ran it from my in-house rack.

better structure

In that case there are 2 issues:

  1. VPS/cloud is restrictive, as is RPi. Real servers actually exist, also in 2026.
  2. "Mobile only" is restrictive as well. For example, you can run both a mobile LND on zeus/blixt and one on wired hardware.

You're right, I should have specified "Node run on mobile", I expect people running a node and plugging it to Zeus/blixt to select a different option.

And you're right on the VPS/cloud too, as one can get an entire server or a virtualized one. Damn, really digging into details here, good good.

I'll ensure to specify laptop/desktop/rack next.

Are you running your rack as RAID? Should that be considered as an option, or is it just a setup?

Honestly, there are many thinkable cases where you have a separate source of funds and you want to use zeus for a spending channel apart from a publicly known node. For example, your salary, your coinjoin outputs, coin coming from your cold stash. Lightning itself is a good way of breaking the heuristics chain.

RAID

it's just a setup. Generally, if you go through the pain of actually having metal, it'd be a bit of a waste to not have multiple disks. And per (iirc) Warren Togami, running a lightning node or mainnet wallet on your laptop or desktop should really use a RAID setup too.
