Cooking hash-vide style rabbit ramen with Bitcoin mining hot water heater
The second meal cooked in the Bitcoin mining hot water heater is rabbit ramen soup. Rabbit grown and harvested right here at the homestead, along with these other ingredients from the homestead rabbit stock, garlic, and finally golden oyster mushrooms dehydrated with a Bitcoin miner. Soy sauce, rice vinegar, lemon, sesame oil, Japanese seven spice, salt, pepper, butter.
All ingredients went into a silicone bag and submerged in the hot canola oil tank of the bitcoin mining hot water heater for 3 days. Hard to beat mining Bitcoin, heating water, and cooking food all at the same time. I can get the water up to 150f out of the tap with only 1500w of power consumption for the total system, miner, pumps, and all!
Another super cool aspect of this mining setup is that it runs on 110v power instead of 220v. Not having access to a 220v circuit is often a limiting factor for pleb miners, especially when these sorts of applications don't always require so much power. By modifying the apw12 PSU and making a custom power cord, now I can plug the miner into an existing 110v circuit. It cost less than $20 to do the modification on the PSU plus using a modified apw12 vs a Loki + apw3++ allows for voltage attenuation and higher total power output.

Where did the rabbit come from?
Edit: whoops missed this
I grow my cannabis and rabbits in the same space. The rabbit system at the homestead is also pretty cool.
Oh! What kind of weed do you grow? Outdoors?
yes, outdoor!
This is true circular economy - rabbit - food - heat - Bitcoin - more feed. Genius system. How many watts does your water heating setup pull on average? Trying to figure out if I can replicate small scale here.
The lowest power consumption is around 1200w for the whole setup. It gets closer to 1600w when running at full capacity. With the advancements in firmware, you might be able to push the lower bound of consumption down. I would say the setup is about as small scale as it gets for heating domestic hot water though. I'll make a post about the interations of the maple sap heater and ground loop bottom heater for the mini greenhouse cold frame.
Do you use a simialr system to dry out the bud too?
I dry the cannabis with miners very crudely in an old dishwasher with the heat blowing in from the bottom where the motor used to be.
Trimming all that has got to be grind.
the rabbits do most of the work for me, on the bus that I keep. Most is made into hash or is loaded with seed. I am mostly after the seed.
That plant is huge! Planted in the ground? Did you plant early?
I'll make a post about the cannabis I grow.
I didn't understand how you used the canola oil. Is the duck cooking in it directly, or is it just conducting the heat?
the Canola oil is both the dielectric fluid to cool the miner and I simultaneously cook the food submerged in the hot canola oil enclosed in a silicone bag. The hot oil is pumped through a heat exchanger to heat the water in the hot water heater. Canola oil is the most accessible dielectric fluid I could find for immersion Bitcoin mining.
sous vide with canola oil, nice. I am glad, i was worried you eat the canola oil as well, that'd be very bad for your health ( seed oil hater here )
no seed oils consumed. I actually use the spent oil as bar and chain oil in my chainsaws as well as oil in the gearbox of my brush chopper. planning on trying to make sawdust logs with it and heat the house this winter too.
i am happy for you !!! that is exactly how it's supposed be used, that is how it was used from the start ;)
"Bitcoin miner rabbit ramen sous vide in canola oil" is the best thing I've read all month! Amen!
How far do you think we are from commercial products like this?
there is a hot water heater you can buy but its so expensive it will never mine the sats back.

Still cool. We just need some competition and innovation now. I probably won't need a new water heater for a few more years.
I saw a video of you tinkering with an air-conditioning miner setup. How's that coming?
the cool thing about this hot water heater is that it's simply connected to my existing unit. I didn't have to change anything about the hot water heater. Just attack the new Bitcoin mining heating system to the tank. The old hot water heater still works too, I just turned off the heating elements.
lol, great ~food_and_drinks solution
hash-vide. my node heats up the room too, mostly from arguing in group chats.
