Take the US out of the picture. Is Iran civilized? If someone converts from Islam to Christianity then the government kills them. What is that? Why? Why does this regime have a seat at the UN as though they're a serious institution worthy of anyone's respect?
PRC, same situation. If the government doesn't approve of someone's religion, they die. Why? You wouldn't like it if we did that to communism. Would you? We could easily say that communism is an existential threat to national unity and then kill all the communists, including in New Zealand since you are after all historically linked with the Anglosphere. We would win. Is that a genocide? The PRC did it to non-communists. So why not?
When exactly is it okay to slaughter en masse people that disagree with my ideology? I am genuinely confused. My country as it exists in this iteration only has 250 years of formal history. I'm trying to come at this from a place of humility. I'm looking at China as an example of how to navigate the complexities of a a large, diverse country, and I notice the regime with the most territory has decided the solution is to kill everyone who disagrees with them. So I guess that's it then? That's what we're doing?
And of course the rest of the English-speaking world is a dystopia of paying migrants reparation money forever until the country is no longer English-speaking. Is that what you mean by "civilized standards" and "decency"? We're not doing that. If we're evil for not doing that then someone might as well bomb us now because we have no intention of ever doing that.

This was the founding ideology of the American Revolution. It won us the majority of the continent and enabled advancements in science and peaceful commerce that were historically unprecedented.
Selfishness is the precise of opposite of tyranny. It's an insistence that the life of a single individual matters, and the needs of "society" do not.
This is incompatible with the PRC's vision of altruistic sacrifice for a collective at the individual's expense, and that's why you don't like it, and would prefer it be contained or eliminated. But it can't be. Individuals exist and their natural inclination is to strive for their own survival. The ones who do are the most effective in whatever realm of life to which they set their mind. The collective is an abstraction made up in academic circles. It requires constant maintenance, constant pointless and expensive arrests and torture, to be kept in line with the party's ideology.
You can insist all you want that the US is the one acting tyrannically. It isn't. I refer you again to the scoreboard in Iran. The Iranian government has killed more Iranian civilians than the US government. So the IRGC is not at war with the US at all. It's at war with Iranians, with a fraction of the US backing the Iranians.
