A lot of ambitious men have no desire to partner with an ambitious women
I suspect it's more because of a selection effect (ambitious women with career success are more selected on a certain values system than ambitious men with career success)

That’s what I was intending to get at.
I think in both cases, it’s a matter of ambitious people caring about status. For men, a beautiful wife carries more status than a rich one. For women, it’s the other way around.

I know, but you asked whether it was a surprise... and since we're making a team, me and my partner, it's weird that we don't go for more specialization/complementarity

Beautiful people marry each other. Ambitious people (or at least ambitious women) do the same.
It’s normal to value in others what we value in ourselves.
