Social media age. People want pictures of themselves on the summit for clout.

This started way before Social Media.
Read the Jon Krakauer book Into Thin Air, or another book called The Climb.
1995 accident started this, Sir Edmund Hillary had called it out beforehand.

This are the kind of pictures that kills, I can wager that they are cases of accidental death.

fascinating i didn't realize summer wouldn't be popular

  • The Summer Monsoon (June – August): Summer in the Himalayas coincides with the South Asian monsoon. While lower elevations face heavy rains and mudslides, the upper mountain is hit by massive snowfall, constant cloud cover, and zero visibility. This creates extreme avalanche risks and makes crossing the Khumbu Icefall lethal due to unstable, rapidly shifting ice.
  • Winter Jet Stream (December – February): Winter isn't viable for standard expeditions either; the high-altitude jet stream parks directly over the summit, producing hurricane-force winds and temperatures plunging below -40°C.

Seems like basic business economic... if it's that popular they should raise prices/taxes until there's a more optimal number of people willing to attempt the summit, while improving their profit margins.

It sucks that untrained rich people can risk the lives of Sherpa workers...

Why was it closed for convid lolz 😂

Anyways I read the fear bubble by Ant Middleton who ascended Everest as an ex special forces guy

He reflected on the summit being a massive anticlimax and the journey up with the Sherpas as the best part

Halfway up a massive crevasse appeared and the Sherpa said their only option is to use this aluminium step ladder fully extended to bridge the gap, no ropes or harnesses

Obviously spiked boots on metal isn't the best, one wrong footing and it's goodnight Vienna

Or he said, we can turn back and reattempt another day
