Is a Gothic horror novel by French author Gaston Leroux. It was first published as a serial in Le Gaulois from 23 September 1909 to 8 January 1910, and was released in volume form in late March 1910 by Pierre Lafitte.[2] The novel is partly inspired by historical events at the Paris Opera during the nineteenth century, and by an apocryphal tale concerning the use of a former ballet pupil's skeleton in an 1841 production of Carl Maria von Weber's Der Freischütz.[3]

I clicked on this because in my formative years I remember seeing this poster EVERYWHERE

I never saw the musical but I remember the commercials and thinking what exactly is this musical/play about? I didn’t know it was based on an old French novel until today.

I see this is quite creepy:

Christine visits her father's grave one night, where a mysterious figure appears and plays the violin for her.

I doubt I will go see it now but the title and poster gives me a bit nostalgia about my childhood.

I too have seen that poster for what seems like forever. Endless TV commercials too. @carlosfandango turned me on to the 1925 Lon Cheney movie. It is worth checking out.

Such a good movie….

Gerard Butler did a remake of the musical/stage version. I wouldn’t bother.
