I don't like to just post a link to an article without having an opportunity to explain why I think it's relevant. When posting we can modify the headline rather than simply using the original, but this doesn't convey much information.
I wonder if there is a way to provide a little space in a link post for the poster to discuss the article and explain why it is interesting or important to SN users?
What's the problem with writing a comment under it immediately? Or make a discussion post that has only a link in the beginning?

I have written a comment to my own post once in a while. It just seems unwieldy and it's a little awkward to immediately comment on your own post.
I also have considered the idea of including the link in the discussion post. It is an option, but I do think link posts should be identifiable immediately.
As another benefit, allowing a short comment space would limit meaningless link posts because the poster would be forced to put some thought into it before submitting.

I think included the link is a good idea.

Plus, if you just include a link in a discussion post, does it come up when SN warns you the link has already been posted? I'm guessing not, whereas it does for a link post.

While I agree this is a workaround and perfectly acceptable. I do see what he is saying.

Post->Discussion
Write article discussion, provide link in the message.

I post a bunch of link posts, and I would like this type of feature, it would allow you to create more discussion, by asking questions or providing context before pushing users to the link to read more

Yeah I think it would be nice to have access to add a description. Nothing more than a sentence or two. Sometime you see headline and a link but you still don’t understand what’s being shared so you have to click the link

а ссылки бывают вирусные.... опасненько)

Allowing the OP to pin a comment solves this.
The OP could comment and then pin their own comment.

I think it works exactly as expected, similar to reddit.

As a big reddit fan, I've always found it slightly awkward, as OP does.

Is it different to reddit? Or am I remembering the old version.?
reply
Same as reddit. But like OP I've always wanted to be able to add a description/caption when I post a link there.
