This would be disturbing if the characterization was accurate. Do most node runners believe this is the case?

It's a FUD piece to some extent. DoS attack vector can disrupt to some extent, sure. The risk of losing funds is not there unless node operators go offline for a long time without watch towers. He talks about liquidity issues but doesn't point to any numbers.
