Hey all,
I just published another article. This one is about how I am building a bitcoin standard in my own life. I would love to hear what you all have to say about it and if you're able to add any insight on how I can make it better. I always appreciate anyone who can point out any typos or anything they disagree with or think is inaccurate.
The piece is aptly titled How I Am Building A Bitcoin Standard.
Thanks in advance a looking forward to hearing back from you.
Thanks, Jon
Orange pilling people is risky. That's one of the obstacles against building a circular economy. I'd like to receive BTC payments from friends, but I don't want them to know I'm a bitcoiner. Lose lips sink ships.

What are you afraid of, exactly? It sounds like you are not able to be yourself or have open relationships, which isn't healthy. But here's a thought- don't try to convert them to Bitcoin. Instead, show them lightning and Nostr. If Bitcoin is going to succeed, it won't be in replacing gold. It will be all the value that can be used and exchanged.

Some of my friends don't even have their smartphones protected with a PIN. Telling them about Bitcoin is asking for a disaster, both for them and for myself.
There is very little content on Nostr that's not about Bitcoin or [extreme, from a normie's POV] freedom - cypherpunk, ancap etc.
I know it's not healthy for me, and I don't know what to do about it. I've distanced myself from my friends, because there doesn't seem to be much I can talk to them about that matters to me. My interests have changed, theirs haven't.

Same happened to me. I was very frustrated because I had no one to interact with regarding my interest in bitcoin, open source, itsec and programming in general.
Then I found SN where I can talk about bitcoin. Sarted to contribute to various open source projects (like SN) to meet the OSS people in their space. And regarding itsec and programming, I joined a university group which participates in CTFs regularly.
After these "needs" were filled, I noticed I am more open to talk more with my old friends again. However, still not as much as before since we still don't have that much in common anymore. But I at least join when they play some board games again.
People change. Such is life, I guess.
Welcome to SN!

I hear you. I try to not be too vocal with friends who aren't interested.
Instead, I just stack sats, self-custody, hodl, write more content, and wait for the next bull run when they have questions for me so that I can link them to targeted and relevant articles for them to learn.
It's a long uphill battle but the people that you love are worth saving. We have to be patient with them and exercise our low time preference for years before they have their eye-opening moment.
It will come. We just have to stay the course and be good friends and family to them in the meantime. Focus on just being their friend and living a full and satisfying life.

Good read I must do more!

Stacking sats, self-custody, and HODL is worth a lot more than you realize.
If you're doing that, you are already playing a vital role in Bitcoin's stable growth.
Let me know fi there's any way that I can help you do more.

Very informative and well-written with no condescension. Excellent!
Thanks!

Thanks so much for your feedback.
It's my hope that I never come off as condescending with any of my content.
Let me know if there's anything that you would like to learn more about.

Really appreciate and enjoy the comprehensive article. Going to read the other articles too. Really valuable content here.
I must say I find it very hard to determine a good place to store your seed. I like to do it in steel, but how do you do that when there's also a passphrase involved? Or when you have a backup in an encrypted file and you have a password for that? Then you need to store it fire/waterproof.
Usually you have 2 copies, I guess, of your seed, but when you have 2 hardware wallets, that's already 4!
Anyone else having difficulty with this?
reply
I struggle with this as well.
I just recently purchased a passphrase steel punch plate from Codl Co that I am hoping will alleviate some of this stress because I want to store a passphrase stamped into steel as well. Here is what I ordered: https://codl.co/products/punchplate-4-compact24-words
I am also working on adding some more content to my article on how to safely store your seed phrase because that was the most asked question and most viewed article in my series on how to secure your seed phrase.
I wouldn't go too overboard. Chances are that your seed phrase plenty secure just stamped into steel and stored somewhere safe from bad actors.
