I remember watching that JRE episode with Tim Pool, Jack, and Vijaya Gadde and the whole thing felt cringe to me. I felt bad for him given the political and corporate hell-scape he built (or witnessed be built) around him.
I have no idea what he was or was not personally involved with or responsible for, but as a CEO, that falls on him regardless and some more transparency after the fact would've be nice.
But I'm sure there's more to it - whether it be contractual obligations, legal threats, state threats (as mentioned), etc.
Past demons should not be swept under rugs, but brought to light.
