I seriously cannot wait for this. Fuck the eBay and PayPal cartel. Fuck KYC. Fuck fiat.
I would love to just sell my stuff straight for BTC. I got some laptops, phones, iPads, etc that I'm sure someone would buy and get more use out of than myself, but PayPal keeps bugging me for KYC and will freeze my funds if I don't give it. Fuck 'em.
With a BTC powered P2P market I can sell my stuff on there and we can see a circular Bitcoin economy outside of zaps on social media. Don't get me wrong, SN and Nostr are awesome, but a Bitcoin eBay is next level.
I suspect full max level fudding from the state if this takes off since it'll be a free market they cannot control and, let's be real, some people will use it like Silk Road. But I'm not even against that. I've donated to the #FreeRoss campaign.
As long as it's resilient and censorship resistant this can change e-commerce just how Satoshi envisioned.
I hope the devs contributing to this are all using nyms that can't be doxxed though. From LE's perspective, they will view this as akin to a darknet market and go after the creators. Stay safe out there guys!

How is this distinct from the just released LN Bits Nostr Marketplace extension?
Other than the claim to allow trading (BTC?) and financial derivatives, (and could the LN Bits extension be tweaked to support such things if they were wanted ?) i'm not sure how this proposal competes/complements the LN Bits approach, which is available to use now.
@DarthCoin has a guide for the extension posted here today -
Happy to be enlightened by anyone in the know.

Looks like civ kit uses multisig escrow and the escrow agents have reputation
On nostr marketplace, merchants have reputation and there is no multisig escrow, but you can set it up so the person running the lnbits instance does a sort of fully custodial escrow
reply
I think Civ Kit is doing slightly different thing, but based on the same protocol.

doesn't even need to be distinct, let people build, copy and fork as much as they want. Thats openness.

Glad I'm not the only one being kept up by the fact that we are almost ready to build P2P markets. Key word being almost. This document, err set of ideas, needs some work to flesh this out further. I encourage the authors to put up the original text in a format that can receive a PR.

Can you send a PR to a PDF?
reply
Ideally yes… you need a PDF/PS editor

Tantalizingly close

This is exactly what GoodStr.io is trying to achieve

'They' managed to shut BitMit way back in 2013. It was just like eBay. But they won't be able to shut this down. Good one.

Very cool having both this and NIp15 going live, if a user can now swap fiat for bitcoin and then purchase from sellers on nostr you now starting to build on-ramps into a circular economy, I hope that this will bring even more liquidity to the space, from people who never wanted to be traders, but if they see an attractive offer while surfing nostr they can help a pleb out and profit in the process
