I read this article this morning reposted to Zero Hedge. I didn't just want to make a link post because I want to talk about it.
Zimbabwe recently issued a "gold backed" digital currency. What may have sounded pretty good on paper is having issues because it is not trustless. The people understandably are wary of the government, and the lack of trust will probably doom this effort.
Once again- bitcoin fixes this. It might be a cliche, but Zimbabwe should have simply embraced bitcoin. Of course, that would have made it harder for a corrupt government to drain the country's natural resources
