I know this subject is quite controversial and many people have many opinions.
I saw many newbies looking for more information about, especially when they want to use it in NOSTR.
So I decided to write a new guide about this, to present ALL THE OPTIONS and explain each one where and how could be used.
Users must decide their own path, but with all the informed consent, knowing what options they have and where to use them.
Is structured the guide in sections, for a clear overview:
  • Private and Public LN addresses
  • Custodial and self-custodial
Existing solutions also structured in sections:
  • Bridge Servers
  • Federated Servers
  • Self-Custodial Servers
  • Lightning Box (special one)
  • LNbits (special one)
  • Custodial services
I hope this guide will bring more light and understanding for newbies. Here is in 2 languages, soon will be translated in more:
Just a small tidbit I learned about lightning addresses. If you have an address like this: darthcoin@stacker.news, it means that stacker news should return a LNURL pay json object at https://stacker.news/.well-known/lnurlp/darthcoin
Excellent guide :)

@darthcoin thanks for the guide. Can't wait to read it all. do you know if a lightning address will work with subdomains?
For example: lightning.stacker.news/.well-known/lnurlp/darthcoin ?
reply
yes, why not? A subdomain could very well where the LNURL server is located, is practically a web server.
I do not see any restriction about that in the specs https://github.com/lnurl/luds/blob/luds/06.md

Cool thanks can't wait to try it out
