Bitcoin allowed us to fight SARS, a notorious unit of the Nigerian police. [Our coalition] began accepting donations via Flutterwave. This started well enough, but then the regime started cracking down. Our bank accounts were shuttered. Bitcoin was our only option left.

The biggest problem is corruption. Corruption is what devours the institutions, what devours the hope of having a prosperous future, [and] is the biggest enemy for prosperity and economic freedom. If every person can be their own bank, I'ld much rather just deal with bitcoin.

We believe [bitcoin] is a technology that we have to expand to the entire continent. It is an opportunity for us as Africans to have a currency that is not based on colonialism, where you can move from Togo to Ghana, to Nigeria and Kenya, [and] have your money keep its value.
