- Just by running a bitcoin core node you are NOT "helping the network". You only help yourself by verifying and broadcasting your own txs.
- Bbitcoin Core is verifying the txs automatically from the blocks you are syncing from other nodes. Bby default Bitcoin Core is connecting to max 10 peers, from which will sync the blocks and also will share the blocks. If you want to be a seeder and share more the blockchain with other new nodes, you will have to open the port 8332 in your router and have a very good internet connection and a very good node. That opening will drain your node resources and internet connection. So DO NOT DO IT if you are not prepared!
- Nodes are NOT to HODL your BTC stash. Nodes are only to validate txs and provide blocks for a LN node.
Always use the 3 levels of stash: hodl, cache, spending. A Bitcoin Core only is NOT the hodl one, it could be the cache one, where you run a LN node.
