I would love to have Nostr succeed but it seems that all the media today (MSM or else) is designed to exaggerate everything .... stating 29M accounts while giving the impression its 29M people to an average person...... they dont necessarily lie but they BEND the truth.

Its sad that I became more skeptical about almost everything until I verity it myself

any type of hype could help on the short term but not on the long term

Imagine you exaggerate SN users by stating 10M users and one year down the line another article indicate its actually 3M .... for the average pleb it indicate its shrinking

I prefer a sales technique called "flowering" where you share the truth while adding a colorful twist (you dont lie or mislead anyone but state facts and leave room for the imagination)

looks like 29 million public keys based on forbes' sourcing, which she calls accounts. (https://primal.net/explore)

The same sources also says ~503,000 users, which sounds more accurate.

There may be 29 mil public keys, but many could belong to one entity.

Yea i know ... but most people do not fact check articles :) ...they mainly read the headline lol .... anyways, my point wasnt necessaily about this article only ... its ANY content (unfortunately you can take anything at face value, even when a content creator is trusted and reliable)..... which is a bit sad

I remember the days (early 90s) when we had 2 TV channels and it was the only source of info ... Big Brother days had their charm too LMAO

Nostr is hard to measure like many decentralized things so people will have to gain their own experience. It's understandable that bloggers need to hype to get those clicks from the fiat world. Nostr's small and vibrant and has its own narratives curated by Nostr Report and trusted individuals. Main thing is to help people find value in real people who've sobered up from algorithmic intoxication.

yes, the metric i typically check for is the daily active user one that @k00b shared as well as the “daily new user profiles with LN address” metric on Nostr Band.

right now nostr is getting 30 new users with lightning addresses per day, roughly as many new users/day as Stacker News.
