Just deployed an update of tipping after a discussion with @gmd and the community. Should simplify UX of tipping.
  1. Boost is no longer an "upvote option"
  2. Boost is now only set when creating a post
  3. Tips are the only second upvote action
  4. Default tip amounts can be set, so that you can avoid subsequent popups
Heads up: currently there is no way to reset your default tip. As I enhance user profiles next week I'll add a settings page where you can do this.
Thanks for all your hard work and time with this site; it's looking good and I look forward to seeing how it develops. Peace.

Would be great to have more community discussion on this... personally would love a profile setting to set a certain % of sats tipped to go to SN...

It's an interesting idea. My preference is to sacrifice for users' benefit.
If we wanted to give SN a cut, we could do it two ways:
  1. the user tipping sets the percentage SN gets
  2. the user receiving tips (or other rewards) sets the percentage SN gets
I personally like 2. Users would effectively donate to the site through their usage in proportion to how much value they themselves are getting.

The more I think about this the more2 seems like the right way to eventually offset expenses. The incentives are really nicely aligned.

never even considered #2 as an option... seems really unique and cool! (21% seems like a nice default setting)
