If you want to feel the financial impact of buying smokes, have someone you trust crush one cig at a time when they find your packs. If they continue to find packs they ramp up the amount of cigs crushed per pack. This will piss you off and you will hide them. Give the person permission to find them at any cost. Eventually you will get so pissed off at having to go out of your way to smoke while your wallet is getting ripped that you just quit in total defeat. It becomes a bigger irritation than just quitting.

$5 a pack?! You must be in the southern United States because up north I'm paying $7.50-$8 a pack and that's considered cheap compared to other states.

That could just the difference between 2015 dollars and 2023 dollars. Funny how financial calculation gets tricky when your unit of account continually slips.
