I get Anita Posch's email newsletter. There's no way to link to the whole thing that I could figure out, but here's her final thoughts:
Final thought
It’s amazing to see how the Bitcoin adoption has been growing in African countries. There was only one initiative I knew of in 2020, when I visited Zimbabwe and Botswana. That was the Satoshicentre in Gaborone founded by Alakanani Itireleng. Together we organized a meetup at the university, where I held a Bitcoin talk. Now there are communities like the Bitcoin Cowries in Ghana, Bitcoin Dada in Kenya, Bitcoin for Fairness in Zambia, Bitcoin Ekasi and Bitcoin Ubuntu in South Africa and the new Bitcoin Innovation Hub in Uganda. In the next few years we’ll see tremendous growth. Exciting!
Yours,
Anita

Good to feel the SN love for @anita in her AMA
I can't help but feel that she's one of a kind and hope that her work never gets forgotten.
reply
I donate to her, but I'm lazy and forgetful. I wish there was a convenient LN way to autopay!
reply
I'll be implementing the upcoming BTC Pay subscription plugin on my membership site. Then you can autopay. :-)
reply
even now, you can sign up for a membership, pay with LN or btc and I'll send you an email each month to remind you to pay again. https://anita.link/member

What do think of this? #66681

I never tried it. I will check it out. I wonder if anyone else on SN has used it? Thanks for the link.

People in the first world have it too good to really need Bitcoin the way people in the global south need it.
reply
Exactly. This is also why so many bitcoiners in the west are aligned morally and politically in such a common way. They share the view of money that those in the global south live every day.

Bitcoin adoption is really growing out here i live in 🇹🇿 Tanzania which is in east Africa and a lot of youths out here are learning about bitcoin ,we actually have a growing community #bitcoinsafariTanzania, so thankyou Anitha porsch for noticing
reply
I'm sure we all would really like to hear more about this. Do you attend meetings? Would you be willing to share photos, videos, etc?
reply
I'd like to see some Bitcoin movement in the Gambia, on the "Smiling Coast of West Africa" in Banjul or Serrekunda! 🌍

There’s no hope for Africa so long as their IQ remains so abysmally low. Colonization was their only hope really.
reply
Outcomes follow incentives. If parts of Africa adopt good policies they'll start attracting investment and talent. If we're being collectivists, then most of America's above average IQ is due to Asian and Nigerian immigrants.
reply
I wouldn't bother responding to that IQ reply at all. It says more about the poster's IQ than anything else. SN allows you to flag a reply. That's what I did.
reply
I replied because I actually think this is an interesting topic, which is not to say I expect this poster to have anything interesting to say about it.
Whether it's due to environment, genetics, migration, or some other factors, low average IQ is an issue for African societies.
reply
Do you have a source for your claims that low IQ is an issue for African countries?
reply
Here's a map of IQ by country and here's a paper on the link between IQ and productivity. The main paper that directly looks at average IQ and national prosperity is very controversial and deeply flawed in many ways. The Mises Institute ran a good critique on it.
Racial disparities in intelligence are the most uncomfortable topic in a labor economics PhD program. Everyone would prefer to see the opposite of the results that keep coming in. As an individualist, I don't really care about differences in population level averages, but I get that it's very triggering for many people.
reply
Yep. People who don’t know the research have been gaslighted by media lies about IQ and race. The fact is that the numbers for most racial differences have been roughly consistent for a very long time.
The main problems with the global IQ map numbers come from the small sample size in some African countries. But we have large consistent samples from some African countries, and of course, long-running results for American blacks.
Steve Sailer is a good source for people interested in following recent results. For example, there was a recent paper that came out proving the link between genetics and racial IQ gaps based on analysis of mixed-race IQ.
