It has a lot of similarities to baseball…. Just remember the ball gets to bounce first though! Hard to see games in the US, sometimes they put one-offs on in Canada.

Assuming you aren’t familiar with Test cricket (apologies if you are); at the moment England are playing Australia in the Ashes in the UK (the trophy is a tiny urn of ashes - long story)

5 test matches at 5 different grounds around the UK. Each team plays 2-innings (they go into bat twice) attempting to score the most runs before the other side gets them all out (takes their ‘wickets’)

Each match can last 5 days. It is currently 2-1 after 3 matches to Australia. The next test is on the 19th July. England are playing a new form of very entertaining, aggressive cricket which has breathed new life into the game and ignited the fans.

More usual games are one day affairs or limited numbers of balls bowled with 1 innings per side. The decision as a captain is always do you bowl first, get the other team ‘out’ and try to score more runs on your go. Or do you bat and get as many runs as possible…. Usually the condition of the pitch / the ground dictates as it most influences the bowlers ability to get people out. And the condition changes over the course of the day with the weather…..
