pull down to refresh

One thing I know for certain from yesterday's discussion is you will not see me in a wingsuit or competing in the extreme ironing championships. Awesome responses though.
Thinking about what you haven't done and what you would like to do is always fun but let's be honest we all like to look back and try to relive our "Glory Days". I have a few that come to mind: throwing a no hitter in rep ball (walked 5 guys though-yikes), hitting one homerun over the fence in high school ball (had a couple inside the parkers over the years but I wasn't a power threat), running first leg of 4x400M relay in regional championships in grade 6 (we won bronze) and hitting an open 3 (luck) in the grade 8 3x3 basketball tournament that sent our team to the finals where we got absolutely destroyed by the best player in the school and his team. My funniest sports memory however is when my little league coach got in an actual fist fight with the umpire (who was clearly drunk) and my dad who was assistant coach at the time had to break up the fight while myself and a couple other players had to hold back the coaches son who was about to run on the field with a baseball bat to go after the ump. Hahaha fun times.
So shill me your greatest sporting triumphs, shocking defeats or hilarious moments.
You know the drill, everyone gets sats.
Cheers, GR
My greatest triumphs have come from pickup basketball games. Somehow, I finally developed a reliable 3-point shot in my 30's and I've gotten to hit a ton of game winners over the past few years. I definitely don't look like a formidable basketball player and the other team (or player) can get buried pretty quickly before they start really guarding me.
An additional almost triumph was when I almost won a HS 1-1 tournament as a 5'2" freshman, before finally losing to the varsity center in the championship.
Shocking defeats and hilarious moments seem to come together.
  1. In a middle school cross country race, my friend and I (same team) happened to be neck-and-neck coming into the final sprint. Not wanting to lose to each other, all manner of tripping, nut punches, and wrestling ensued. I don't remember who crossed the finish line first, but we did both get disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct.
  2. The other moment that comes to mind was playing coed soccer and facing an all-girls prep-school team. Naturally, we took this for an easy win, but went on to get our asses handed to us. They didn't just win, they played really dirty and beat the shit out of us.

Nice. I always prided myself on my 3 point shot as well. I couldn't really do anything else well so pretty much had to. I was a decent passer as well but hopeless trying to drive the lane or defend against someone driving the lane. I am useable in 3 on 3 but terrible in 1 on 1.
Great story about cross country. I did cross country as well. Shout out to my dad who used to come home from working all day and then go out and run 2KM with me to train for cross country.

Not much of a victory story but..
Racing in an 8-lap amateur go-kart race against some work colleagues. I come up from 8th to 2nd on the 7th lap of the penultimate race. If I can finish top 3 I will make it into the final race of the day.
Getting a little cocky I push it and promptly spin off the track chasing 1st. With some help from a marshal I go back on the track and put my foot down eager not to lose a place. Imagine my surprise as 3rd place, 4th and 5th all flash past me going in the other direction… I had decided to do my last lap in the wrong direction. Suffice to say I didn’t qualify for the final race.
